What is nutrition?


Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body utilizes them, and the relationship between diet, health and disease.

Nutrition also focuses on how people can use dietary choices to reduce the risk of disease, what happens if a person has too much or too little of nutrient, and how allergies work in our body.

So, nutrition is a major and huge component of health and well-being. It is recognized as a vital sign in assessing patient health, well-being, body fitness and it helps in taking care of our body.

What are nutrients?


Our body cells use food for growth and repair. Nutrients are the chemicals in food that cells need. Nutrients are the substances that the body needs to regulate body functions, promote growth, repair body tissues, and obtain energy. Nutrients provide nourishment to the body cells. If people do not have the right balance of nutrients in their diet, the risk of developing certain health diseases increases.
                             

Nutrients can be classified in 2 types :-


Macronutrients – are the nutrients that our body needs in relatively large quantities.
Carbohydrates, proteins , fats and water.

Micronutrients – are the nutrients that our body needs in small quantities.
Vitamins  & minerals.
